Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle has finally opened in Alberta, just off Whyte Ave in Edmonton! Taking over the previous Mieningful location, the renovations made the space look much brighter and the decor is very clean and modern. Originating in Taiwan, Chef Hung has since opened 5 locations in Vancouver, 5 in China (one location in our hometown, Kunming!) and two in the US.

DISCLAIMER: We were invited to Chef Hung's media soft opening this past week in preparation for their grand opening tomorrow (October 21st, 11am). Although the meal was complimentary, all opinions are honest and are purely our own.

Champion Beef Shank Noodle Soup ($14.95)

Lets just start with the unforgettable texture of the noodles! Chef Hung's noodles are made in Taiwan and imported to each location from there. They're super bouncy with just the right amount of chew! The broth in this dish is a braised beef broth, and the dish is topped with seared short rib slices and a luxurious marbled shank. There's also a house made chilli oil that we loved in this soup!

We had this dish accompanied with a cold marinated cucumber side dish. Slightly sweet, but crunchy and refreshing.

Champion Beef Brisket Noodle Soup ($17.50)

This dish was our favourite! The brisket was dreamily tender and literally melts in your mouth! The short rib slices are the same as the short rib slices in the beef shank dish we had. The soup in this dish was lighter than the other one which we liked, as the herbs made it very clean tasting - didn't add any chilli oil to this dish.

We had the golden kimchi as a side with this dish! It paired perfectly as the kimchi was super flavourful and complimented the lighter soup. We love Korean kimchi and have never had Taiwanese style kimchi, but it was good too! Very garlicky but we loooove garlic. Each dish comes with a little plate of green onions and Taiwanese pickled vegetable too!

All in all, Chef Hung is definitely a great addition to the Edmonton noodle scene - I've never tried anything similar here! Be sure to attend their grand opening tomorrow as I heard there are some vouchers being given out!
